Welcome to the Good Leaders Clinic, a new podcast series where hosts Tim West and Liam Black sit down with purpose-driven business leaders for candid conversations about their real life issues and challenges – and explore how they have managed them. In the first episode, they look at what drives impact entrepreneurs to make the big decision of starting their own business.

First on the Good Leaders Clinic’s “couch” is Kerry Jones, founding CEO of eating disorder treatment clinic Orri, about her journey from clinician to businesswoman, now heading a company with 100 employees and a multi-million pound turnover.

Jones’s vision is to change the way eating disorders are perceived and treated and to challenge some entrenched approaches that don’t always work, she says. Orri has now supported more than 1,000 clients in its two clinics in central London and online programmes, and plans to expand to more locations in the capital and around the country.

As a founder, I find myself then immediately into the ‘what next’... There's never a point where it is just running along.

What is she learning about healthcare system change, turning vision into messy reality and about herself as a CEO in a fast-growing company? How does she look after herself in a founder role which demands everything she’s got?

Jones opens up about:

  • How the urge to solve a problem led her to start her own venture
  • The challenges of balancing the multiple roles of a business leader with an impact vision
  • The “joys and struggles” of running a business as a founder
  • When it’s the right time for the founder to step out
