Queer like me
Vini Bhansali moved to the US from her native India to pursue her astrophysics studies. She still dreams of becoming an astronaut, but right now she runs an NGO called the International Development Exchange (IDEX), which aims to tackle poverty through providing long-term grants to grassroots projects rather than large-scale philanthropy.
In this film she discusses what it was like to come out as gay at the age of 19 and how her experiences of isolation and self-hate influence the way she works today.
Our friends at iOn Poverty are interviewing inspirational social entrepreneurs from across the globe about their careers, their motivation and what makes them successful in order to inspire others to get 'jobs with meaning'. We'll be featuring a number of their films on Pioneers Post over the coming months - so watch out for our favourites.
