Social enterprise through a global lens
Britain likes to think it's at the forefront of advances in social enterprise, but diverse initiatives and innovations are increasingly populating the globe. Pioneers Post Reporters, went to the SOCAP (Social Capital Markets) conference to gauge the progress of a global movement towards business with a social focus.
Globally more than 1bn people have crossed the dollar a day threshold. But, that leaves 2bn people who are still surviving on less than 2 dollars a day. Global inequalities seem to be improving, but within countries inequality is on the rise.
At the same time a new form of capitalism that recognizes our ability to direct the power and efficiency of market systems toward social impact is emerging, and of increasing appeal to diverse entrepreneurs and organisations.
Pioneers Post reporters went along to the SOCAP conference, to gauge the progress of the movement towards business and with a social focus, and corresponding innovations in sources of capital and funding mechanisms.
