Cathy Pharoah is a leading expert on funding for the third sector, specialising in philanthropy.
She produces the annual Family Foundation Giving report, with the Pears Foundation, now into its fifth edition. She also produces the Charity Market Monitor on the finances of the UK’s top 500 fundraising charities.
She worked on the original social investment bank proposal, and has written papers on social finance for two recent books, including in ‘The Big Society: a new agenda for welfare?’ (LSE/ Edward Elgar)
She recently published research on ‘Global Grantmaking’ by foundations, supported by Nuffield, Baring and Hamlyn Foundations, and is currently studying remittance giving, supported by Trust for London.
She works closely with the donor advisor community, and was Director of Research at Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) for 11 years. She is a founder member and Assistant Editor of Voluntary Sector Review, and presents widely on giving and philanthropy.
